  1. How do I add my site to HumGuide?

We'd love to have your site included! Basic listings are free. Use the search field first to make sure it's not already listed. If you don't find your site, follow the instructions below:

First, you must login to your account on HumGuide. The Login button can be found in the upper right hand corner of each page. If you do not have an account, click the "Create a new account" tab.

Once you are logged in you can submit a website to be listed by clicking the appropriate link from your My HumGuide page. You might use the All Categories page to quickly view the structure of the site and find the appropriate location for your listing.

Please understand that HumGuide is a geographically focused resource. Your site must either be about something or someone in Humboldt County or be a business with its PRIMARY location based in Humboldt County. Please, no Facebook Business Pages at this time. Sites are reviewed for this type of content before being published.

  2. How do I change/edit my site's listing?

If you did not submit your site to HumGuide, but you find it listed here, and you would like to make changes to your listing, please follow these steps:

    1. Create a new account. Once you have your account and you're logged in,
    2. Find your site(s) listing and
    3. Click the link that says "Claim ownership of this listing".
    4. That will take you to a form that is prepopulated with the listing information. You will need to fill out 2 fields:
    • Phone
    • Explanation validating your ownership of the listing.

We will review your request and contact you if we need further information. Once ownership is transferred you will find the site listing on your “My HumGuide” page. From there you will be able to submit changes/edits to your listing (subject to approval).

  3. What happened to HumGuide? Why is it so different?

The old HumGuide was built on a custom system that hadn't been updated for over 10 years and was full of security holes. In addition, it was filled with dated information and features we no longer use. We rebuilt the entire site in the open source system called Drupal. This will allow us to keep the software up to date and more secure, and to easily add features over time. We also took the opportunity to give the site a new look with a design by local graphic arts company Carson Park Design. The new theme is "responsive" which means it renders well on various mobile devices. We think you’ll find it lighter, cleaner and more flexible for today’s visitor on the many popular platforms used today. We hope you enjoy the new site!

  4. What happened to my account from the old site?

Unfortunately, we have had to start over with accounts. The old site was full of bad user data. If you are a website owner and wish to be able to submit changes to your listing, you can follow these directions:

  5. What is "My HumGuide"?

If you have an account with HumGuide and you are logged in, My HumGuide is your home base. In My HumGuide you can submit a website to be listed or a photo to be included in "Image of the Day". You can also create a list of favorite links found within HumGuide. Future features we have planned include subscribing to various email notifications regarding improvements to the site such as new site links added, the option to subscribe to a newsletter and eventually new events listed in our local calendar of events. Your suggestions are always welcome!

  6. How do I advertise on HumGuide?

Great question! Basic listings are free as always on HumGuide. However, you can increase your visibility by buying an Enhanced listing. Additionally, we have a few advertising options such as the rotating banner at the top of each page. You can find complete options and pricing listed on our advertising page.

  7. Note: We are looking for beautiful, quirky, interesting images to represent our region. Once you have an account with us,  you simply go to My HumGuide and in the list of options you will see "Upload an image for the HumGuide gallery".

    1. Click and you will see a page for adding content.
    2. Provide a description. This will appear under the image when people are viewing the gallery of images.
    3. Browse for an image to upload.
    4. If you have a site listed with us and you wish to promote it as part of your submission, you may select that site.
    5. When done, click the the "Save" button.

Hum Guide staff will be notified by email and will review your submission. You will be notified by email if/when your image is accepted. All accepted images will appear in the gallery on a rotating basis. A different image each day will be featured in the Image of the Day block in the right hand column of every page. Any images you have submitted will be shown on your My HumGuide page, including their status.

We hope you find this feature as fun and interesting as we know Humboldt County to be!

  8. We try to keep links up to date, but with so many listings and a tiny, volunteer staff it's difficult. Please make a note of the URL or the name of the site that you discover to be broken and send us an email. We will try to find an updated web address for the site or, failing that, we will delete the listing from the database. Your help is appreciated.

  9. We're happy to include new site listings. If you come across a site that you think should be part of HumGuide, first use the search box and search for the web address. If you get no result you can suggest we include the site by using the contact form and we will look in to it.

  10. What happened to the Classifieds?

The classifides feature has not been included in the current site. Since Craigslist has become so popular, we thought it would be redundant to have a competing system. We recommend using  Humboldt Craigslist for classifides but encourage you to return here for many other features!

  11. Can you send me information on relocation, jobs, tourism, hosting, etc.?

No, sorry. Everything we have is on the site. We have no extra documents to send via email or regular mail. HumGuide is designed as a portal for connecting you with the right source and finding all the information you may need.
